Symphytum officinale Common Comfrey

Comfrey is a perennial herb native to Europe. The plant grows to be about 2-3Â½ feet tall with beautiful, bell-shaped flowers and large leaves. Comfrey normally blooms throughout the summer, with the first flowers opening in late April or early May. Flowers come in blue, pink, purple, or white. Comfrey is not safe for internal use. However, comfrey is often used in skin care preparation due to the compound Allantoin present in the plant. Leaves large and coarse, oval-lanceolate to lanceolate, untoothed, the base running onto the stem, only the lowermost stalked.
