The golden Buddha statue located at golden triangle point of Chiang-saen district of Thailand.

Standing atop a 40-foot marble pylon is this gilded sculpture group representing the victorious Columbia Triumphant (the United States.) She is in a seashell-shaped chariot pulled by three hippocampi, mythical figures with the front half of a horse and the rear half of a fish. Columiba’s left hand holds aloft a sprig of laurel leaves, symbolizing victory. Her right hand holds a fasces, a roman symbol representing government power. A shield is strapped to her back. The height of the group is fourteen feet.

As with all the sculptural work on this monument, the artist was Attilio Piccerilli (1866-1945.) For his figure of Columbia, as well as two other figures for this monument, his model was Audrey Munson.

Munson posed for more than a dozen important statues, sculptures, and friezes, most of which still stand to this day across Manhattan and Brooklyn. She is now often called “America’s First Supermodel.”
