Pebbles are beautiful pebbles on the sea. Selective focus. Nature.

Rockweed (Fucus gardneri) has lacy mounds of flat, greenish-brown leaves. It is a brown hairless alga that is part of intertidal life along the Pacific North American coast. When mature, the tips become bladders that puff up with a mixture of gas bubbles and jelly to make it float in the water. This allows the wide, mitten- like blades of the seaweed to be exposed to sunlight. These blades are used as a location for fish to lay eggs and sperm. The Holdfast is the section that keeps the seaweed anchored to a rock, so it doesn’t wash ashore with the tides. The Blades are wide to catch sunlight for photosynthesis.The tips are edible. Settlers referred to them as “Indian popcorn” because Aboriginal Tribes dried them to eat.
Other names are bladderwrack and popweed.
