Demre, Turkey. The dramatic facade of the ancient Lycian rock-cut tombs at Myra, carved directly into a vertical limestone cliff face. Multiple tiers of temple-front and house-style tomb facades, complete with Ionic columns, carved doorways, and pediments, are stacked across the sunlit rock wall. The tombs replicate wooden Lycian domestic architecture in stone, preserving architectural forms that vanished elsewhere millennia ago. Dense green Mediterranean scrub and trees frame the grey and honey-toned cliff, creating strong color contrast. The scene is captured from an aerial drone perspective in bright summer daylight under clear skies, emphasizing the monumental scale and intricate stone carving of this ancient necropolis. The higher placement of the most elaborate tombs reflects the Lycian belief that elevation brought the deceased closer to the gods. The facade of the São José dos Campos Municipal Museum, historically known as the former City Hall, is one of the most significant architectural landmarks in the interior of São Paulo state, in the Paraíba Valley. Originally built in 1926, as indicated by the decorated pediment above the main entrance, the building displays a refined eclectic style with strong neoclassical influences, characterized by its perfect symmetry and ornamental details in relief.
